Disaster Preparedness

The downloadable files below are a Disaster Preparedness Guide developed by the UCC Conference Disaster Coordinators from around the country. It was designed to help families and friends prepare for any disaster – natural or man-made. It has been said that “if individuals don’t survive a disaster, neither will the church.” If you cannot print the files at home, we may be able to print them for you in the church office.

Volunteer Housing

In 2009, responding to a challenge by Rev. Bill Wealand, Florida Conference Disaster Coordinator, members of Union Congregational Church rehabilitated, remodeled and refurbished former classroom space into a Volunteer Housing Facility. This facility now provides comfortable housing for volunteer work groups who come to the area to help those with unmet needs and repair storm damaged homes. The facility may also be used as a Family, Youth or Elder Hostel.

Mary-Martha Circle

The Mary-Martha Circle takes its name from the story in the Bible of Mary and Martha - two sisters who were close friends with Jesus. Martha believed she could do best by serving Jesus. Mary believed she could do best by learning from Jesus. We believe that Jesus calls us to do both. The Mary-Martha Circle is a group of women (but we have men, too) who gather every month for fellowship, study, and service. We meet on the first Tuesday of every month, from September through May. Everyone is always invited to join with us.

Family Renew

Founded in 1989, Family Renew is a partnership between residents and the agency which unites people from diverse backgrounds and circumstances to alleviate homelessness among children and their families in Volusia County by creating a life enhancing experience that is empowering, safe, and at no cost to them.

Halifax Urban Ministries

Our mission is to prevent homelessness among low-income families by providing emergency assistance and to intervene on behalf of homeless people. Halifax Urban Ministries is a faith based nonprofit that has served our community since 1981. Almost all of our funding is through financial donations by the local community. 94% of each dollar directly provides services to our guests. We offer homeless prevention and assistance services throughout Volusia County from HUM service centers and distributed services at 30 partner and school locations. Flagler residents may access services at our Ormond Beach locations.

Volusia Inter-Faiths/Agencies Networking in Disaster brings together, on a regular basis, existing inter-faiths, religious leaders, emergency management and other disaster response organizations to share and coordinate in the areas of disaster readiness, response, recovery and mitigation.
